The Team Quality Award is given semi-annually to recognize and encourage production efficiency, continuous improvement, and cost reduction. These are key elements to the continued viability of Robins Air Force Base.

The award was established in 1994 and has continued to date with numerous teams from across the Base competing for the award. Each winning team has to compete with approximately twelve other teams before being chosen the winner for the particular award period.

Total estimated savings from the efforts of the winning teams to date exceeds $750 million. It is a real tribute to the top-notch workers found all across Robins Air Force Base.

CURRENT TEAM QUALITY AWARD WINNER:

F-15 Maintenance Team assigned to the 402nd Maintenance Wing.

The winning team was the F-15 Maintenance Team assigned to the 402nd Maintenance Wing. The F-15 team reversed a serious functional test flight failure rate, significantly improved the safety of the Flight Test Pilots and reduced the depot flow days.

The F-15 was experiencing a significant number of in-flight emergencies and requiring approximately five test flights per aircraft primarily caused by flight control rigging. Coordinating with the system engineers and the pilots, the team correlated the technical data and devised a standard procedure to perform coordinated rig on every related component.

The results were: (1) About 3 less test flights per aircraft (2) reduced in-flight emergency rate enhancing the safety of the pilots and reducing workload on emergency response teams. Bottom line: increased jet availability to the warfighter and a projected savings of $1,516,144.50.
